"Why," asked Jessie, pushing on a freshly planted palmetto, "Do we have to stake them? They seem very well balanced." His black eyes sparkled with curiosity. Or sweat. It was only 6:25 in the morning but we were already drenched. July is brutal on the coast of South Carolina. He went on, "If they fall over, couldn't we just push them back up?"
but as adults, we don’t have themselves very thoroughly distributed. Right? I was unsure about that statement and just did a little google work. But you know what that’s worth. Should I amend that sentence?
I don’t think you need to amend anything. Thumbs don’t have stem cells. I was just pointing out a similarity.
However, someone here just mentioned that meristematic tissue may be more akin to the cells reptiles use to regrow STRUCTURES or organs, like a tail. Stem cells give rise to CELL LINES, like red and white blood cells and other cells for immune function. So maybe the meristem/stem cell comparison is a weak one.
Jokes aside, it’s interesting to think about our behavior from an evolutionary standpoint. Why, exactly, would we go to the trouble to remain out in a thunderstorm with the mosquitoes? Why do we plant palms at all? We think we operate on free choice, but perhaps we’re driven to do these things.
well, I guess you could say this was a substitute or adaptation for hunting and gathering? but then why am I so particular about it looking neat and tidy? That’s sort of creamy or as they say today peacocking. Am I trying to in someway to seduce my client?
To be there during the lightning, we did go under the construction project and sit safelyout of the storm!
Ha! Humans do the oddest things.
And we don’t regrow thumbs, but we do have stem cells. These recurring patterns we see in the living (and non-living!) world are no accident.
