You are so much more than just a garden writer. That's the frame. But it's what's in the picture that makes the difference. And by the way, I'm not buying it that you did not know what a Greek Chorus is.
its true! you know i was lucky to have some worldly and educated people in my life but my formal education was fairly lax. part of it was public, part religious schools -- neither built for high quality education. when i got to college i was behind and off put by any classic of lit, art, drama, math; any thing but plant science. i started writing in my uncles when i read about them in, recognized them in a novel called two boys kissing.
Your writing (reading Funky Little Flower Farm now) takes me back to growing up in the same area. Feeling the connection to the dirt and the plants are part of me, even as I age. Thanks for bringing it back full force.
What a wonderful metaphor/not-metaphor, Jenks, of the gay uncles. Oh my, we all need a crew like this. And your friend was so sage to liken them to a Greek chorus. Awesome.
I love hearing your stories about growing up and becoming the wonderful person you are today. You are very inspiring to anyone who loves plants and nature.

You’re a lucky person.
Cheers to your wonderful uncles!
But dont raise your glass too high. That would be gauché!
You managed to make me laugh and feel wistful, at the same time. Great one, Jenks!
Im always surprised and happy when people laugh. I would love to write more humor but usually it’s unintentional!
Love this - it’s great writing - speaks to my heart... ❤️
