We recently purchased home with a completely bare front yard. Starting from scratch is intimidating. There will definitely be an arbor, if the husband is willing to put in the work. I love the pergola with the swings! And the huge lock is humorous.

Remember this one was made for show - the swings worked but if you had a vigorous, child swinger, it may not be stable so get him to think about stability.

Oh my what talents Mary Alice and Jefferson shared with you and all the visitors who who have and continue to pass through the gates you (and your crews) designed and installed. You have given me some new ideas about gates in my own new garden. Thanks😘

These garden gates reveal so many possibilities for whimsicality and fun in the garden. Some of them--the large brick keyhole, for example, blew my mind.

I love the keyhole doorway too. It was in a small urban backyard and all y ou wanted to do in that yard was go through the door.

That should be “sleight of hand”. Sleight with an e and no hyphens. 😄

Impressive and interesting, Jenks Farmer, and look forward to learning more but as an old soul am limited in what I can produce but not what I can learn. Also OMG, Janisse Ray, I have your book (I guess) since 1999. I purge my bookshelves off and on but that’s a keeper. It’s almost like I’ve met you.

Have you seen the dovecote gates they have in the balkans and szekely gates in transylvania? 10/10. Also can put a man door in a giant firetruck sized gate without it looking out of place doing that. Wikipedia used to have a picture of a really really cool one in the page about dovecotes but it appears to be gone now. The referenced gate in the text blurb is bleh, but if I were in the gate business I would look into that really really hard. The Szekely are/used to be famous for their gates. Happy researching!

Also if you get to visit the ticino canton they have some cool gates, though less of them than transylvania
