I’m so glad Momma is ok from her soft fall in the garden. Happens to me quite frequently as well in my no-till garden. And I agree, the Mexican sunflowers are prettier when they fall over.

I, too, could be described as recalcitrant on most days. I think it comes from being raised in a male-dominated family full of good ‘ol boys & chauvinistic pigs.

At the farm, we pile the magnolia leaves in a hole in the driveway and the grand boys LOVE running through them. I’m always scared they’re going to step on one of those big velvet ants (cow killers, wingless wasps) because that’s one of their favorite places to hide. The past couple of years I used them to mulch my tomatoes & they also make great filler in large pots.

In the swamp, I burn the magnolia & live oak leaves around the house. It helps to keep the mosquitoes away & I love the sizzling & popping noises the magnolia leaves make.

Thanks for busting the “don’t rake the leaves” myth. Everything in moderation, I say.
